31 Jan Restcomm Media Server 7.0 Supports HD Audio with Opus and Automatic Speech Recognition!

Restcomm Media Server 7.0 is out!

What’s new on Restcomm Media Server?

OPUS Codec

Restcomm Media Server 7.0 includes support for the OPUS codec! Opus distinguishes itself from most high quality formats by having low delay. It also supports extremely high audio quality which makes it stand out from low delay formats.

In the end, Opus meets or exceeds the audio quality performance of  existing codecs across a wide range of bitrates and it operates at lower delay than virtually any existing compressed format.

Automatic Speech Recognition

Restcomm Media Server 7.0 offers a powerful new API for Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) to convert speech to text in real time. Users can easily plug-in lightweight drivers to enable their preferred ASR providers. Some popular ASR providers include Google Speech API and IBM Watson. Furthermore, users can also choose the active ASR driver during runtime on a per-call basis according to user’s own criteria.

Restcomm community members can now contribute with ASR drivers for different providers. The ASR Driver API is very simple to implement and the Restcomm team is happy to support you on your journey to using it!

Asynchronous I/O powered by Netty

Restcomm Media Server 7.0 also exposes a brand new asynchronous Network API powered by Netty! The new framework helps achieving better throughput with lower latency and reduces resource consumption.

PCAP Framework

Last but not least, Restcomm Media Server 7.0 features a new PCAP Playback framework! Captured traffic from real world scenarios can be fed to the PCAP framework, allowing users to analyze media quality or study call setup flows.
